AXIS Frank Mako2 Downwind Foilboard ✶

The original Mako set the benchmark for stability and easy paddle-ups. For the Mako2, Frank focused on the details: it is faster, more stable and releases earlier, which matters most with the smaller, faster high-aspect foils many riders now use.

What changed

  • Nose and volume – slightly more volume toward the nose; a hard pop-up rarely pushes the nose under now
  • Bottom and rocker – new for speed, stability and release, with more forgiving touchdowns
  • Deck – thinner in the standing area for a more direct feel
  • Length and width – both up, to suit Tempo and higher aspect foils that need more take-off speed, and to give more leverage in turns

Which size?

  • 130 L (8’11” × 17.5″) – riders over 100 kg, or anyone starting downwind
  • 120 L (8’9″ × 17.5″) – around 90–105 kg, or lighter riders wanting the easiest paddle-up
  • 110 L (8’7″ × 17.25″) – around 80–95 kg; the safe pick while learning to read bumps
  • 100 L (8’5″ × 17″) – around 70–85 kg with some downwind time; the size most riders end up on
  • 90 L (8’3″ × 16.75″) – up to around 75 kg, or heavier experts racing

Which foil?

Tempo for racing, Surge for hunting and surfing bumps (any Surge size works with any Mako2 – the 1240 is the easiest to learn downwind on), or Fireball as the all-rounder.

Included

Fitted nose and tail protectors, and a heavily padded downwind-specific board bag cut for your size. Semi-custom carbon, hand laminated over a shaped core to Frank’s masters, built to order in small runs.
